    Client:

Pilot / Test for Buzzy Bee show

    Details:

Before the production company behind the hit kids TV show Buzzy Bee decided to explore the 3D animation route they created a pilot using stop frame animation. Oz Studios created the central character Buzzy Bee complete with moveable eyebrows, a replaceable mouth held on by suction and ball joints on the wheels, wings and head to provide movement. The puppet had three rigging points on the fibreglass body so that he could be made to fly.

    Moa

    (2012)

    Client:

    Steinlager Pure

    Details:

When Steinlager was creating an advert to celebrate New Zealand with Taika Waititi they were in need of a life size Moa puppet for Taika to ride. Having created the stop frame animation puppet using a variety of materials and thousands of feathers our directer John was given the job of matching the bird’s movements with Taika's, who had previously been filmed in the green room. This involved on set rigging and working directly with directors to get the desired movement from the moa.

    Materials:

Aluminium armature, urethane rubber, urethane foam, epoxy putty and feathers.

Animation

Over the years at Oz Studios we have been involved in a wide spectrum of puppeteering and animation jobs. Masters of movement, we enjoy the challenge of bringing something inanimate to life in the most natural way. From years experience we’ve honed various techniques and can create everything from smiling buzzy bees to giant life size moas.

Not happy to just make the models and puppets, Oz Studios director John is also a whizz when it comes to bringing his creations to life. His résumé involves puppeteering for television adverts and even at live rock concerts (don’t ask).
